Moda Building Blocks

Well sort of.  I used my collection of Cherrywood fabrics instead of the Moda solids.  My quilt is a bit mellower, although I tried to stay in the same color ways.  This quilt took a long time to machine quilt, do I dare say that it took almost as long to piece it as to quilt it?  The 36″ blocks and the 24″ ones are a challenge because each is, in its own way, a small quilt.  I tried to make each block unique, using templates, stencils, rulers, marking pens and chalk.  I used King Tut “Kanaan” (variegated light grey) on the top and bottom line in the bobbin.  Just one layer of warm and natural white because I didn’t want it to weigh too much.  I doubled up battings once and although it looked nice, it is too heavy to use as a bed cover.   As promised here are a bunch of pictures.

Hard to fit the whole thing in one frame.

Thanks for looking!  I’m proud of this quilt, I feel like I accomplished what I set out to create, a sampler of my talent.

  1. Stunning Quilt. Did you do the quilting on a regular sewing machine or a long arm? I love the different quilting you did for each block.

    • Thanks. It was sometimes tough to come up with a new design for each block. Some just pop into my head, other times there is ripping out involved, a little “what were you thinking?” and yup, I got this.

I’m not much for solids unless paired with a print, but you’ve come close to changing my mind. It’s really gorgeous with the quilting – and big!
